QI GONG
The names ‘QI GONG’ and ‘NEI GONG’ are more or less synonymous.
They can be translated as ‘BREATH WORK’ and ‘INNER WORK’.
This already gives you an idea of what to expect.
Imagine how you tense and stretch your muscles, combined with a specific way of breathing, when you stretch in the morning. This is very similar to some qigong exercises.
When practising Qigong, we do indeed consciously work with our breathing and focus our attention inward.
In a world where everything is moving faster and faster, it can be very pleasant to consciously slow down and challenge your coordination.
Although it is slow, the name does contain the word ‘GONG’, or ‘WORK’.
Sometimes it is like doing exercises with a physiotherapist to awaken a specific weakened muscle.
It is somewhat similar to yoga, but different.
Sometimes the fire needs to be stoked and sometimes it needs to be extinguished.
